How to Get God’s Blessings

The Bible says that as Christians, we are God’s children and co-heirs with Christ, but do we act like we are kings who have the kingdom of Heaven at our disposal?  Or, do we act like beggars, slaves and laborers?

I don’t know about you, but it’s hard for me to separate worldly thinking from Heavenly thinking.  In the world, what we get is dependent on what we do.  For example, if you work overtime and take on the extra projects, you may get a raise, a bonus or a promotion.  So, it’s easy to see why we sometimes think that our prayers, tithes, church attendance, etc. are tied to God’s blessings.  For those who are in Christ, our blessings from God are dependent on what Jesus did and not on what we do.  Prayers, tithes, church attendance, etc. is for YOUR benefit and not to earn God’s blessings.

In other words, God does not withhold blessings from us based on our obedience.  That was the law and Jesus fulfilled the law.  Now, we get all of the blessings without the curse!  If we aren’t receiving God’s blessings, it’s a receiving issue and not a supply issue.  It would be like someone going to an “all you can eat buffet” and drinking only a glass of water.  Ridiculous! God’s supply is endless, so get a BIG plate and partake of God’s blessings!

Romans 832 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? (NLT)

Let’s Pray:  My Generous God, Thank You for sending Jesus to give me the opportunity to become an heir to Your Kingdom.  Thank You for giving me everything I need and fulfilling the desires of my heart just because You love me.  Help me remember that You want to shower me with blessings and prepare me to receive all that You want to give me.  In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.  Amen.

That working hard mentality is one I’ve definitely had to deal with. Doing all those good things simply out of love and gratitude to God rather than to “earn” what He’s already freely given has been a process for me.

      Ann,

I think most of us struggle with this. Just yesterday, I found myself wondering if I “blew” an opportunity just because I didn’t do something just right.

When we do things out of love and gratitude, there’s freedom and joy and peace, but when we do those same things because we think we HAVE to do it to be blessed or to avoid punishment then it takes all the joy out of it.

Praying for us all to just enjoy God and freely partake from His “all you can eat buffet”.

It’s very important your post because be a son or a daughter is a special relationship, different than the others. I need to meditate and beleive it and live as a daugther, free from fear, full of His love.

      Martha,

Yes a child is different than other relationships. You ARE His beloved daughter and you should feel free to receive from Him. He is a God of abundance!
