How is Creating Wealth Like Pregnancy?

Most of my life I believed that everything I had was MY doing.  I bought my own car, I paid for my own college education, I paid my own debt, etc.  Even the Bible says if you don’t work, you don’t eat (2Thess 3:10).  So, it’s easy to get the mindset that MY work produces MY wealth, but the Bible tells us that God gives us the power to create wealth (Deut 8:18).  It certainly seems like these two statements are contradictory, but they aren’t.

Contrary to popular belief, work is not a “dirty” word.  Adam was working in the Garden of Eden before the curse.  God gave each of us the ability to bring Him glory and when we cling to Him, we will BEAR good fruit from our work.  So, quit “working” for wealth and allow God to do the work in you and through you.

Pregnant Woman

I have never heard a pregnant woman say, “I’m working so hard to produce this baby”.  Instead, the woman just goes about her normal routine for the most part.  She eats, she sleeps, she exercises, she goes to her job, etc.  She doesn’t expend a great deal of energy trying to MAKE the baby grow.  It happens naturally once the seed has been implanted in her womb.  The baby gets its nourishment from the mother through the umbilical cord and in due time, everyone will see the fruit of her womb.

There are seeds that have been implanted in us and when we nourish those seeds by clinging to lifeline of Jesus, we will eventually BEAR the fruit of our labor.  For example, I’ve been writing a book for quite some time and for me, it’s my “baby”.  Yes, I do the research, I sit at the computer, I put the words on the page, etc., but it is GOD that gave me the ability to write and God that gave me the inspiration and revelation.  God is the true source of the book and I am just the “book bearer” who will reap the rewards.  So, like a woman having a baby, she must go through the labor pains of BEARING a child, but it was God that gave her the ability to do so.

So, if you are not where you want to be financially, stop thinking that it’s all up to you.  Instead, just do what you are gifted to do and let God nourish those seeds inside of you so you can BEAR good fruit and reap the rewards.

John 15 - I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. (AMP)

Let’s Pray:  My Source of Life, Thank You for giving me the power to create wealth.  Help me remember that it’s not MY effort that PRODUCES wealth, but YOUR power that enables me to BEAR good fruit in abundance.  In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.  Amen.

Great post Marianne. Absolutely I know only too well that relying solely on my own efforts will not be productive – I am limited – He is unlimited! I much prefer His way! And the pregnancy analogy was perfect.

      Ann,

I like that — I am limited. He is unlimited.

Pregnancy is a helpful analogy for me even though I’ve never been pregnant. It’s so amazing that a baby grows simply because it’s connected to the mother. We “grow” simply because we are connected to the Father and Jesus.

I agree – that is mind-boggling in both instances!

Beautifully expressed, Marianne! The metaphor of pregnancy is compelling. May we indeed focus not on “producing” but rather on God’s power! I am excited for you as you bear the “baby” of your book by His grace; may our Source of Life continue to shine in your life!

Thank you Caroline. It’s definitely His power and grace that is making the book come to life!
